Thousands of years ago, men tried reaching heaven by building a tower called the Tower of Babel. It led to confusion and misunderstanding. Though we don't build the same towers today, we still try the same things. We think our own way to get to heaven works better than God's way. The problem with that is, Jesus is the only way, the only truth and the only life. Before you think that's just my opinion, take a look at what Jesus Himself said in John 14:6.
Countless people try getting to heaven in their own way. Despite all their efforts and sacrifices, they remain doubtful. That brings us to one of the most important questions anyone will ever ask you! Could you say that you are 100% sure that you will go to heaven when you die? If not, please allow me to share Bible truths that will help you understand this important subject from God's point of view.
We Have All Sinned
"For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23
God's word says we have all sinned. In other words, we have missed the mark of perfection that God expects of us if we are to work our way to heaven. We have already failed. At one time or another, we have all deliberately chosen to disobey God. The reason we sin is because that is our nature; we are born that way.
Sin Has A Penalty
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23
A wage is a payment. The payment for your sin is death or separation from God in a place that the Bible calls hell. It doesn't matter what men call it, God calls it hell. And He means it. Every person has "earned" the wages of sin and deserves to go to hell. But God did not create hell for people. He made it for the devil and his angels. It's very sad that people choose to go to hell when they don't have to. Even hell isn't the end.
"And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death." Revelation 20:14
This is so important and it's no joking matter. Through no choice of my own, I am born a sinner. My payment for sin is hell and the lake of fire. This is God's justice!
Jesus Paid the Penalty
"But commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8
The word commendeth means proved. God proved His love for you by giving His own Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for your sins. He isn't like friends who say they will always be there until you really need them. Unlike people, God means what He says. The Lord didn't just say He loves us, He proved it. Jesus paid the penalty for us. He died in my place and your place. Thank you, Lord!
Believe on Jesus Today
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him for the dead, thou shalt be saved." Romans 10:9
What does that mean? To believe on Jesus Christ as Savior means to believe that He died for you, paid the price for your sin and that He is the only way to heaven. You can express your belief on Jesus by calling on Him in prayer.
Pray Sincerely
Your prayers can be worded like what I have here. But remember something important. Simply repeating words, without meaning them, does not save anyone. It is a heart attitude that expresses itself by spoken words. If you aren't sure what to say, try this:
"Dear Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe you died on the cross and paid the penalty for my sin. I believe you rose from the dead three days later. I am placing my faith in you alone to forgive my sin and save me. Thank you for giving me eternal life. In Jesus' name, AMEN."
I used to say the famous prayer: "Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take." My feelings were that I could take care of it if I died while I was awake. But every night when I went to bed I said that prayer just in case something happened while I was asleep. There was no assurance of heaven in my soul.
Then one day at church, I trusted Christ as my Savior. Since that time my bedtime prayer has changed. Now I simply say, "Thank you Lord, for saving my soul."
Is that your condition? Would you like to know more about Jesus? Feel free to ask me, talk to a Christian at work, or ask your pastor. I'm praying for you.
