All a person needs is eyes and ears to learn that we live in a world of confusion, conflict and doubt. The political climate raises so many questions about the truth that no one seems to know how to tell truth from error. Part of the reason for that is that men jump to their own conclusions based on faulty evidence because they aren’t aware of ALL the truth. That isn’t as much a criticism as it is an observation.

Not every person in the world yearns for a standard or a flagstone of absolute truth but such a standard does exist. It isn’t the Congress, the judiciary or even the President of the United States. The flagstone of all truth is God’s Word, the Bible.

This collection of 66 books was verbally inspired by God. This means it was God-breathed, each word being as much inspired as if He spoke it through His own lips.

I wasn’t there when this happened and neither were you. As a Christian, I decided a long time ago to accept this by faith. But before you dismiss this all as someone’s idea without backing from the facts, consider the truth that many times the Bible contains quotes from God. Parts of the Bible that weren’t direct quotes were still superintended by God’s Spirit and preserved for us in modern times. How else could we know the mind and heart of God?

The Bible is God’s completed word for us today. A true Bible believer cannot say that only part of the Bible is God’s Word and then sit back and vote on which part is God’s and which part is man’s. This includes both the Old Testament and the New Testament.

Not only is God’s Word complete, but God left a special warning for those who add to it or take away from it. The warning is found in Revelation 22:18-19. This is like God setting His seal of approval on the Word of God up to that time. It is also like God saying the Word was complete and in no need of addition.

One of the basic doctrines of the Bible is that God’s Word is infallible. In other words, as it was originally written, there were absolutely no errors of any kind. Have you noticed that no one has found the original texts to check them for accuracy? Why not? Is it because if we found the originals written thousands of years ago we would build a shrine and worship the texts rather than the God they came from?

God’s Word still tells us how to live the Christian life. It’s as fresh today as it was when God first gave it and it is the perfect and all sufficient rule of faith and practice for the Christian.

Many well meaning Christians find themselves confused about the Bible. They find themselves wondering if all bibles say the same thing. Pastors assume their church members know the answers to these questions but more often than not members have never been taught these things in a way that they understand.

It will be my privilege and joy to teach about this and related topics for the next twelve weeks at the Northeast Baptist Church of Southlake, Texas. The lessons will start at ten o’clock each Sunday morning. Please consider this your personal invitation to come by and visit with me. I’m sure you’ll be challenged and blessed as you learn how the Bible came to us. Northeast is located at 1000 Davis Boulevard in Southlake, Texas. These lessons are being taught by special request that came from Pastor Jerry Summy. Classes start on Sunday, May 2, 2010.

This is for those who want to hear the truth from an independent Baptist perspective Let me help you find resources to help you learn the Bible and grow closer to the Lord.
