Throughout history men of renown have found themselves hailed as a messiah. Some of them also claimed for themselves that title. They were not all men that lived in the past; some of them are alive today! As we take a look at this issue, one that most churches don’t talk about for one reason or another, you’ll find yourself shocked.
Before discussing this, we must first define what is meant by the title “Messiah”. He is the future king from the Davidic line who will rule the united tribes of Israel. Along with this, he is the anointed king. The Christian view of a Messiah is that of a Savior. In a worldly sense, it is any expected deliverer. In the worldly sense, there have been many messiahs but there’s only One who meets the qualifications of the Messiah.
Is Obama a messiah or is he the Messiah? The answer to the first part of the question is, “nobody knows“. If he is a deliverer, what has he personally delivered us from? The answer to the second part of the question is “no”, not according to the Bible. This may not be the popular notion and I don’t mean this as an attack on the President. Let’s just look at the facts from a biblical perspective. Don’t forget, there are many people who think Obama is the Antichrist!
Slate.com contains a running Obama Messiah Watch dedicated to "considering evidence that Obama is the Son of God." Its purpose includes periodically highlighting biographical details that appear in newspaper, television and magazine profiles of Obama.
“When he (Obama) talks, the messiah is absolutely speaking.”
“He is the Son of God.”
Many other historical figures were seen as messiahs in the past. Some of them made the claims for themselves. This includes notable men of history like Cyrus the Great, Alexander the Great, and Bar Kokhba.
Famous figures of Jewish history also found themselves acclaimed as messiahs. Here are just a few of them: Simon, a former slave of Herod the Great, Athronges, Judas of Galilee, Theudas, Felix, Menahem ben Judah, Vespasian, Moses of Crete, and countless other Jews once heralded as messiahs.
Countless Christians in history also fell into this group. Still others have made their own claims that they are the messiah.
“I am the second coming of Christ, that messiah that they’ve been waiting for,” said Dr. Jose Luis de Jesus Miranda.
Sun Myung Moon is a South Korean citizen and the founder and leader of the Unification Church, a world-wide occult organization that believes Moon to be the "Messiah" sent by God to complete the earthly mission of Jesus.
Groups promoting Maitreya make the following claims: "He has been expected for generations by all of the major religions. Christians know him as the Christ, and expect his imminent return. Jews await him as the Messiah; Hindus look for the coming of Krishna; Buddhists expect him as Maitreya, Buddha; and Muslims anticipate the Imam Mahdi or Messiah."
Politics is not the reason this website exists, but when politics crosses the line into theology, I feel it my Christian responsibility to point to the truth of God’s Word. I make no apologies for that. What we are seeing is disturbing, almost blasphemous.
Many people, including Christians, see in Obama a Messiah-like figure. He is seen as a lightworker that communicates with God-like energy. Some perceive him as much more than a President.
Film director Spike Lee said, “You’ll have to measure time by ‘Before Obama’ and ‘After Obama’.”
Those who take the liberty to rewrite Scripture and insert Obama as a character of biblical proportions risk placing on themselves the curse God promises to any person who adds to or takes away from His Word. Stand away from them for your own safety’s sake. This is what they are doing.
“... And when Jesus OBAMA was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."
Have you heard enough yet? Jesse Jackson, Jr. said this: “What Barack Obama has accomplished is the single most extraordinary event that has occurred in the 232 years of the nation’s political history. ... The event itself is so extraordinary that another chapter could be added to the Bible to chronicle its significance.”
Ben Shapiro recently wrote in Townhall.com, “Apparently, Senator Barack Hussein Obama, D-Illinois, is the Messiah.”
Shortly after his 100th day in office, a new painting was unveiled that continued the controversy. Though I’m not aware that Obama has called himself a Messiah, others have done it for him. If he doesn’t agree with them, why doesn’t he say so? No matter what others think or say, the President is not qualified to be either the messiah or a messiah. Why not?
Born the Messiah
Christ did not become the Messiah, he was born that way. He arrived in our world as God in the flesh and he didn’t turn into that later in his life. There were specific requirements. Read about them for yourself.
Isaiah 7:14...Virgin birth
Psalm 102:25...Creator
Psalm 2:7...Son of God
Am I saying that Obama is a wicked man? All I’m saying is that Obama is just a man like any other man. Yes, he holds an office not many have held. No Messiah of God would act the way Obama acts. It would be a pleasant change to hear the truth instead of the lies we are often exposed to. Other questions are also being asked about him though. If he isn’t the messiah, is he the Antichrist? That’s a question for another article.
